if you've never learned to play a musical instrument before then the guitar's probably a good place to start what with it being such a popular instrument already. most modern music is written for and played on guitar and they're easier to get hold of than more obscure instruments. even if you don't know anyone who has one you can borrow, you can pick up a new acoustic guitar pretty cheap, or a second hand one for even cheaper.

another reason so many people choose guitar as their first instrument is because it only takes a few weeks to learn a few simple chords and once you've got over that initial hurdle it's very easy then to learn any number of songs.
